Consumer electronics retailer MediaMarkt is adding a new 70,000 mdistribution centre (DC) in Etten-Leur, the Netherlands. This new, state-of-the-art warehouse is aimed at centrally organizing and hence significantly improving the replenishment and distribution activities for the retailer’s Dutch store network. It will also offer optimal efficiency for suppliers. The new facility will be ready in mid-2019.

The new distribution centre is being constructed in the heart of the country’s logistics hotspot (the West-Brabant region), which is centrally located between the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam and has good motorway access. MediaMarkt’s DC will form part of a large logistics campus comprising five separate units. The retailer is renting four of the five units, accounting for around 55,000 mof the total capacity of 70,000 m2. MediaMarkt’s logistics service provider will be ID Logistics, which has signed a rental agreement with Heylen Warehouses – the biggest Belgian property investor in the Netherlands – for 55,000 mof storage space.

Win-win-win situation

“We can’t wait to launch our central distribution operation from the new warehouse this summer,” comments Michael Soehlke, Chief Financial Officer of MediaMarkt in the Netherlands. “It will be a huge boost for the collaborative efficiency with our suppliers and partners: a real win-win-win situation, because this will of course bring direct benefits for our customers too.” According to Marco van Walraven, Managing Director of ID Logistics Benelux, the project will give MediaMarkt “tremendous logistics advantages”.

The new DC is expected to create around 150 new jobs in the Etten-Leur region.
