Whirlpool opens SSC for supply chain
Whirlpool EMEA has opened a new shared service centre (SSC) for supply chain in Poland. The establishment of the new facility, which is located in Łódź, Poland’s third-largest city, follows detailed analysis of the appliance manufacturer’s planning and logistics operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The focus is on providing standardization and stability by centralizing the planning and demand management process.
Whirlpool EMEA’s new SSC SC was opened during an official inauguration ceremony in the presence of Gilles Morel, President of Whirlpool EMEA. It is located close to its existing SSC for Finance, which currently employs about 50 people. The facility, which has to operate across different markets, represents a breeding ground for building an international team and for further growth.
“Poland is one of the most important countries in the EMEA region in terms of quality and pace of development. Thus, from the perspective of Whirlpool EMEA, it is an optimal strategic location for the Shared Service Centre for Supply Chain,” comments Luigi La Morgia, Vice President Integrated Supply Chain, Whirlpool EMEA (pictured).
New dryers manufacturing facility
The company has been continuously active in the Łódź region for the past 20 years. With its new dryers manufacturing facility (which opened in December 2018) and its cooking and plastic components plant combined with the SSCs for finance and supply chain, Whirlpool now employs around 2,000 people in the city and is one of the biggest foreign investors in the region.
