Supply chain start-up in the spotlight: Xeneta

Xeneta

Founded in Oslo (Norway) in 2012, Xeneta has grown into a leading data source for shippers worldwide, enabling them to compare container shipping rates against market averages and market highs and lows.

The company provides accurate freight rate benchmarks and market intelligence in real time and on demand based on crowdsourced data from more than 600 major international businesses covering more than 60,000 trade lanes and over 45 million data points/rates of spot and long-term rates. The data is available via a web interface with advanced visualization. This helps freight sourcing teams to optimize their procurement performance, analysis and reporting activities thanks to transparent, actionable information.

Xeneta currently employs 67 people and serves customers across all industries, including the likes of Electrolux, Continental, Brother International, Nestle, ThyssenKrupp and Bonprix. The company was co-founded by Patrik Berglund (currently CEO), a logistics and tech enthusiast who possesses a passion for modernizing business processes related to logistics procurement and the supply chain. He has in-depth logistics and transportation experience from several years at Kuehne + Nagel in various roles and also as co-founder of Nordilog, a logistics consultancy firm. In 2016, Berglund received the prestigious Lloyd’s List Next Generation Shipping Award.

The scale-up aims to become the world’s largest neutral freight benchmarking and market intelligence platform, providing full rate transparency into the ocean freight industry. Having received €16.5 million worth of funding so far, the company’s growth strategy is based on targeting Tier 1 and Tier 2 beneficial cargo owners (BCOs) and non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs) to gain more data and revenue, focusing mainly on North America and the whole of Europe.
