Winner of the last quarter (Q3-2015): Amazon

American e-commerce company Amazon has secured the number one position in the 11th Supply Chain Top 25 ranking, which was announced at the Gartner Supply Chain Executive Conference 2015 in Phoenix, USA, earlier this year. The list is published annually by Gartner, Inc., one of the world’s leading information technology research and advisory companies, to identify global supply chain leaders and provide insight into their best practices.

When preparing the rankings, one of the key criteria used by Gartner is the extent to which companies are responding to changing market demands as profitably as possible. Amazon has launched many successful services in recent years and has seen its revenue grow by around 20 percent annually over the past three years. In the 11th Supply Chain Top 25, Gartner praises company’s innovative approach, which is evident in supply chain-related projects such as the use of drones to make deliveries and the launch of same-daydelivery services at subway stations in the USA. Amazon, who has moved up into this year’s top spot from third place in the 2014 rankings, is joined in the top three by McDonald’s and Unilever. Meanwhile Apple and P&G are recognised for their long-term accomplishments in the new ‘supply chain masters’ category.
