According to a recent survey by McKinsey supply chain disruptions remain the norm, not the exception, with nine in ten respondents saying they have encountered supply chain challenges in 2024. The survey results identify considerable gaps in the ability of companies to identify and mitigate supply chain risks.

There seems to be a slowdown in activities and implementation of systems to improve resilience. Companies continue to improve the collaboration with direct suppliers. But the share of respondents in the McKinsey survey who say that they have good visibility in deeper levels of the supply chain fell by 7 percentage points, the second consecutive annual decline. This is a big concern because major disruptions start deep in the supply chain upstream beyond the direct suppliers.
