Gartner and Supply Chain Media formalise partnership to gain new industry insights in Europe

supplychainmedia-logoDoetinchem, The Netherlands, 26 January 2016 – Gartner and Supply Chain Media have formalised their relationship by signing a collaboration agreement aimed at further improving the quality and international relevance of research in the supply chain sector. In the coming months, the two organisations will be working together on several joint projects including the Gartner Top 25 and three supply chain surveys. By pooling their expertise, resources and networks, they hope that these studies will provide important and unique insights into the industry from a European perspective.

Gartner, the world’s leader in information technology research, has formalised its partnership with Supply Chain Media – a leading publishing company focused on connecting supply chain professionals both in the Netherlands and across Europe by gathering, generating and sharing knowledge – to work on several concrete initiatives aimed at obtaining meaningful insights into the current state of the supply chain industry in Europe.

The first joint initiative, a European supply chain survey, will be conducted from late January through to March. “This is an extension of the Supply Chain Technology User Wants and Needs survey that we’ve run in North America for the past eight years,” comments Chris Poole, Research Director at Gartner. “In line with the broadening of our scope from IT into the supply chain sector, both in the US and in Europe, we’re keen to gain a deeper understanding of the latest supply chain focus areas, processes and systems within European organisations. We’ve known Supply Chain Media for some time and the company has a valuable European network of influential supply chain professionals across all sectors.”

Unique Comparisons

Supply Chain Media will help to encourage members of its community to participate, explains Martijn Lofvers, Publishing Director. “We will be promoting the survey through our e-newsletters, in social media and our quarterly European magazine, Supply Chain Movement. Gartner will analyse the raw data from the survey to discover the latest trends and insights. We’re very interested to be able to draw comparisons between the US and Europe for the first time.” The findings of the survey will be presented later this year across Supply Chain Media’s channels, both in print and online, as well as at the Gartner 2016 Supply Chain Conference in London in September.

“Another initiative in the pipeline is a survey on women in supply chain,” continues Chris. “Supply Chain Media has a strong European network of around 1,100 female supply chain professionals. Together, we will be exploring their perceptions of their roles and their capabilities, attitudes and ambitions.” The survey is planned for Q2/Q3 of this year.

European Representation

The two organisations will also be collaborating on a couple of ongoing initiatives, including the Gartner Top 25 Ranking which is based on a combination of analysis of company performance, analysts’ opinions and peer reviews. “By working with Supply Chain Media, we hope to significantly improve the European representation in the peer voting this year,” adds Chris. Last but not least, Gartner’s Benchmarking Survey will be supported by Supply Chain Media’s list of around 150 senior supply chain personnel in Europe. In return for their involvement, companies can receive a personalised set of results enabling them to assess their standing compared to industry averages.

“We regard this partnership as an excellent strategic opportunity for us to further grow our presence in Europe and to gain feedback which is relevant for our clients in Europe and North America alike,” states Chris. In summary, Martijn concludes: “We’re looking forward to working with Gartner to gain unique new insights as the basis for high-quality content and industry events. Furthermore, this is our chance to show the rest of the world what’s going on in the European supply chain sector!”
