SCM Global Pub Quiz 2021
Thursday | 9 December 2021 | 17:00h - 18:00h

Supply Chain Media organizes 2nd SCM Global Pub Quiz
Sharing supply chain knowledge is proving more necessary than ever due to global shortages in trans capacity, raw materials, parts and personnel. During the SCM Directors Club’s monthly consultation hour, practical insights are shared. And to test supply chain knowledge even more broadly, in a fun way, the publisher of this magazine is organizing the SCM Global Pub Quiz for the second time on December 9.
Every last Friday of the month, SCM Directors Club members can participate in the digital consultation hour in MS Teams. In the previous speaking hour in October, members shared their experiences in chaotic global supply chains. Long-term partnerships with carriers and logistics providers are really paying off now, noted one supply chain director. With clear agreements, you are not dependent on the spot market for transportation. Another member noted that it is only in these exciting times that you get to know your real partners; he therefore had good experiences with his logistics provider in the United Kingdom. In contrast, a fellow director experienced zero ownership of another logistics provider in the British Isle. The participating members discussed where the differences between logistics service providers come from and how to better recognize the right partner.
The issue of laborious transportation from China to Europe – now up to 15 weeks – was also discussed at length. One of the participants told of the disastrous alternative of putting goods on the train from China to the Netherlands. Alternative sourcing in Europe was also involved, but still runs up against the hurdle of testing and approving new suppliers.
To successfully navigate today’s perfect supply chain storm, it is crucial to maintain a broad view. To test supply chain knowledge among companies, Supply Chain Media is hosting the SCM Global Pub Quiz for the second consecutive year as a live stream online on December 9. Last year, 30 different international teams competed, divided into practitioners (supply chain professionals working in industry, wholesale and retail) and vendors (consultancy firms, software suppliers and logistics service providers). The questions during this year’s English-language pub quiz are divided into five categories, namely Leadership, Innovation, Planning, Sustainability and Talent Development. For the 25 questions, the creators will draw on all articles from the international edition Supply Chain Movement published in print and online.
Supply Chain Media has made this English-language content accessible in SCM WisDome, a personalized knowledge base with machine learning and a kind of Netflix of supply chain articles.
As prizes for the pub quiz, the winners will receive what is called a Knowledge Quest. This quest is a three-week trajectory in which a company with a clear goal (onboarding of new supply chain employees, supply chain talent development or supply chain innovation) uses the knowledge base to prepare users for a pitch to the manager or the board.
