2012 Supply Chain Challenges
2011 saw retailers dealing with significant challenges. The impact of a collapsed economy, cautious consumers and lower than anticipated sales volumes, led to huge discounting and reduced profit margins.
Despite the economy picking up in 2012, retailers have approached this year with caution. The main priority is protecting profit margins to avoid the financial losses experienced last year.
This means all parts of the supply chain are being squeezed, causing retailers, FMCG manufacturers to run tighter inventories and plan demand more effectively.
