Boom!: global community for women in supply chain

Boom!

Women still represent just 39% of the total supply chain workforce, according to Gartner’s 2019 Women in Supply Chain survey. Furthermore, there is only 11% female representation at the CSCO/EVP/SVP/CPO level, which is actually a decrease over the last two years. At Supply Chain Media’s inNOWvate Supply Chain Event 2019 high-profile supply chain industry analyst and performance coach Beth Morgan (pictured) announced that she has recently launched a global community to tackle this situation. Called Boom!, the community is aimed at furthering the roles and careers of women working in the supply chain sector throughout the world.

Boom! is all about helping women in the supply chain industry to reach their full potential in their professional lives in harmony with their personal lives. Membership of the community gives them access to content and resources designed to support the advancement and acceleration of their roles and careers through inspiration and learning. It is also an excellent way for them to connect with female peers around the world, and to recognize and celebrate successes within the supply chain community. Importantly, especially in the context of the current talent shortage, Boom! will reinforce the supply chain profession as an attractive destination career for future generations of female talent, while also fostering greater gender diversity and equality throughout all echelons of supply chain organizations.

MSD becomes founding sponsor Boom!

The Boom! community is guided by an Executive Advisory Board of influential supply chain and business operations leaders from Burberry, GE Appliances (a Haier company), The Hershey Company, Merck & Co, Inc., Microsoft, Mondelēz International, New Balance, Schneider Electric and Unilever. In a further development, Boom! has just confirmed it has signed up one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, MSD, as its founding sponsor. In addition to its role as sponsor, MSD will become a corporate member of Boom!, offering its employees access to the community’s learning and professional development resources, support and connections.

“Our community is designed not only to empower women but also to help leaders of supply chain organizations to understand and nurture female talent in a way that creates a richness of opportunity for all,” commented Morgan, founder & CEO of Boom!. “At a time when women fill just over a tenth of senior positions in the supply chain, our aim is to reach the people who will be tomorrow’s leaders. MSD is not only investing in its own future but is also helping us to work towards gender parity in the supply chain profession as a whole.”
