The American First Lady, Michelle Obama, has hailed food manufacturers in the USA for agreeing to remove no less than 1.5 trillion calories from their products, as a boost to the campaign against obesity. On 17th May, she announced that sixteen companies, together representing a quarter of all supply chains in the American food industry, will have removed one trillion calories in 2012 and 1.5 trillion in 2015. “They have agreed to reformulate their food products in a number of ways, including reducing fat and sugar content, introducing low-calorie options and by reducing the size of portions in single servings,” said Michelle Obama.
